On February 7, 2018, Foobar2000 Copilot Lite was globally published to the Microsoft App Store. This is the free version of Foobar2000 Copilot. It has the same features as the paid version minus the flashlight option. It includes a single adDuplex ad at the top of the search page. It will run on WP8.0, WP8.1 and Windows 10 mobile.

Unfortunately, if you are using a WP8.0 or WP8.1 phone and using the phone's built-in store app to search for it, it does not appear at all-- not for any of the search terms I submitted to Microsoft when uploading my app. So it is in effect invisible.  My original Foobar2000 Copilot app does appear in the phone's store app search.

It does work if you are using a Windows 10 mobile phone and using the phone's store app.

Microsoft is currently looking into why this is.

But should you want to install the app to your WP8.0 or WP8.1 phone now, you can open a browser window on your phone, and go to the Microsoft store and search for it there using the search button at the top of the screen. That works, versus using the built-in store app that is installed on your phone.

Just typing in foobar2000 should bring it up in a list. You can then click on it from the found list and then proceed to install it.

Or on your phone in a browser window, you can also just click on the following direct link to it in the Microsoft app store :

Hopefully Microsoft can resolve this soon, so Foobar2000 Copilot Lite will be visible in the store using the phone's store app for WP8.0 and WP8.1 phones.

Foobar2000 Copilot Lite is now available in the Microsoft App Store. This is the free version of Foobar2000 Copilot.

The flashlight feature was removed from the original app, since most people already have a flashlight app.  Windows 10 mobile includes a flashlight option built into Settings. I originally put that option into the app since many times I listen to my audio system while sitting on my sofa in the dark.

The Microsoft Advertising ad component was also removed from the app. Only the cross platform advertising adDuplex component is used.  You will see an adDuplex ad now at the top of the Search page of the app, there are no other ads used anywhere else in the app.

Removing the flashlight feature and the Microsoft ad control allowed removing almost all the store permissions needed for the app.

The flashlight option needed camera permissions since the LED light on Windows phone is a part of the camera module.  Hence why all flashlight apps in the Windows Phone store require camera permissions. I may take out the flashlight option the next time I update Foobar2000 Copilot as well.

Because the app uses your Wi-Fi connection to communicate with and control your Foobar2000 server, it still needs network permissions.

Also it needs Internet access if you view the online user manual thru the app using Wi-Fi. The user manual in the old version v1.2.0.0 was removed from the app itself and placed online on this website. The user manual is online so it can be edited without having to get the app re-certified by Microsoft for each edit. The online manual uses the Google translation widget to provide different language translations.

Foobar2000 Copilot v1.3.0.0 is now available in the Microsoft App Store.

This version of Foobar2000 Copilot requires installation of the foo_controlserver v1.1.5 component in Foobar2000.  See : foo_controlserver plug-in install on PC.

This is a major update. New features include :

+ Display of album art from Foobar2000

+ Media library searches

+ Spanish language support

+ A new streamlined interface

For more details on Foobar2000 Copilot, see its User Manual.

The new version of foo_controlserver is v1.1.5.

I've updated socket message sending due to potential performance issues -- optimizing the code for larger album art and playlist messages.

I've uploaded this version along with its full source code to GitHub.  The component is backwards compatible with the original version v1.0.2 and will work with all prior versions of Foobar2000 Copilot.

For instructions on downloading and installing it in Foobar2000, see :  foo_controlserver plug-in install

While doing testing for the new version of Foobar2000 Copilot v1.3.0.0, I encountered some small issues relating to album art, and so ended up making a few more modifications to the foo_controlserver component.

The new version of foo_controlserver is v1.1.4. I've uploaded this version along with its full source code to GitHub.  The component is backwards compatible with the original version v1.0.2 and will work with all versions of Foobar2000 Copilot.

For instructions on downloading and installing it in Foobar2000, see :  foo_controlserver plug-in install

At this point, I've completed most of my testing of Foobar2000 Copilot 1.3.0.0 and it is performing well, so I'm close to getting it released to the Microsoft store. I'll post here when it is available.
